The Pros and Cons of Selling on eBay

Are you interested in becoming an eBay seller? If you are, you are definitely not alone, as eBay has become a relatively quick and easy way to make money online. Each day, a large number of individuals use eBay to make extra money from home and a few lucky ones are even able to make enough money to support themselves or their families. Before you jump on the eBay selling bandwagon, you are advised to take a few minutes and examine the pros and cons of selling on eBay.

One of the many pros, or plus sides, to selling on eBay is the fact that is it is relatively easy to do. Once you create an eBay account, you can start listing items that you have in your possession for sale right away. When doing so, it is also easy to do. eBay has a step-by-step process for listing items for sale, in traditional auction formats or buy it now formats. In fact, eBay also has a program that lets you compile your auctions, with pictures and descriptions, when you aren’t even connected to the internet. As soon as you connect to the internet, you can begin to upload your listings and have them start right away.

Another one of the many pros to selling on eBay is that just about anyone can do it. You don’t have to have big fancy, expensive items to sell on eBay. In fact, a large number of those selling on eBay are just selling items that are taking up space in their homes; items they don’t want anymore. If you are interesting in becoming an eBay seller, but you aren’t sure as to how much you can depend on eBay for income, you may want to think about testing the waters. You can do this by listing the items have you have around your home for sale. Items that tend to sell relatively well are lots, or groups, of toys and infant clothing.

While there are a number of pros, or plus sides, to selling on eBay, there are also a number of cons, or downsides, to doing so as well. One of the biggest cons or downsides to selling on eBay is the competition. As it was previously mentioned, a large number of internet users have started using eBay to make extra money or even make a living. This is what leads to multiple auction listings for the exact same items. While this is nice for the eBay buyers, it can hurt you as a seller. When the supplier is higher than the demand, you may not make as much money off of your items as you had originally hoped to, if they even sell at all.

Another downside to selling on eBay is the fees associated with doing so. In recent years, eBay has redone their fee structure, often to raise their fees. Although these fees are still considered relatively low, they could put a damper on your profits, which alone are sometimes hard to come by. Of course, there are ways that you can the most out of eBay fees. For instance, if you have a “hot seller,” you could start your auction out at a low price, as the fees are less for doing so; however, you are taking a gamble, as you never have any guarantees as for how much your items will sell for. Perhaps, the unknown is one of the biggest downsides to selling on eBay; you never really know if you are going to make money or even if you will end up losing money.

As you likely already know, the decision as to whether or not you want to become an eBay seller is yours to make, but, when making your decision, you are advised to keep the above mentioned points in mind. With a relatively equal amount of pros and cons, you may be wondering what your best option is. For more accurate information, you may want to think about testing the eBay seller waters, as you are able to sell whenever you want, with no minimum auction requirements.

Tips for Avoiding Your AdSense Account Getting Banned by Google

I have seen quite a lot of AdSense publishers posted in different forums stating that their AdSense accounts were banned by Google due to fraudulent clicks. Most of these people claim that they are innocent and have never clicked on their on AdSense ads. So they have no idea why click fraud can occur on their AdSense accounts. The truth is click fraud can happen in several ways and not necessarily caused by the AdSense publisher himself/herself who accidentally clicked on his/her own AdSense.

Below are some of the tips to protect your AdSense account:

1) Do not use autosurf programs to promote your websites that contain AdSense. Autosurf programs can substantially increase your website traffic or hits, AdSense page view and ecpm but people who surf your site only to earn advertising credit or other type of incentives. So the traffic generated from autosurf programs aren't counted as real and thus against AdSense policies.

2) If possible, do not involve in any traffic exchange networks and programs. If you have join one or more programs or networks that can make you a steady AdSense commission, you should start worry about your AdSense account as this could mean that members of the program(s) were clicking each other AdSense ads all the while whether intentionally or unintentionally. As soon as Google detected a group of people were clicking each other AdSense, many of the members AdSense account in the program will be suspended. Also traffic exchange can be another mean to artificially generate tons of unreal website traffic or hits and boost up AdSense page view & ecpm and it is strictly prohibited by Google .

3) Do not join AdSense exchange networks. They are similar to traffic exchange programs except members are participate just for clicking each other AdSense. This should be a guaranteed way to be banned by Google.

4) Read all the Google AdSense policies at http://www.google.com/adsense to see whether you have against any policies and make the necessary modification.

4 Steps to Creating A Website Specifically to Earn AdSense Revenue

Building a website to earn Google AdSense advertising revenue has become a popular way to make extra money online nowadays. It is easier to earn AdSense income versus generating sales by selling products or services online. However it does involve works, time and money before you start earning from Adsense program. Below are the steps to creating a content website for earning AdSense revenue.

Step 1
Decide the content of your website. You can write a topic or subject related to your interest, hobbies or experience. You can also provide educational information and advice on your website if you are expert at something.

Step 2
Use a website builder to create your website. One of the easy-to-use website builders that can help you build a website is Bluevoda website builder. Bluevoda site builder allows users to build a website without technical knowledge. You don’t need to build your site from scratch. The trick is to use a free professional template provided by the site builder and then start adding your text and links to your website. You can add some graphics and pictures to make your site look nicer. After completing your website project, your next step is register a domain name and sign up for a hosting account to publish your website on the Internet.

Step 3
Join Google AdSense program. It will usually take several days for Google AdSense team to review and approve your site. If Google accepts your application. You can start learning how to generate AdSense code for inserting to your website to generate Adsense revenue. If your site rejected by Google, don’t get upset easily. Google will let you know the reasons of the rejection. You can fix the problems and reapply again.

Step 4
You need to drive targeted Visitors/Traffic to your website to generate Adsense revenue. The higher your website’s traffic the greater your Adsense earning will be. Below are some of the ways that can help you drive some traffic to your website in short period of time.

1) Use Per-per-click (PPC) advertising. The two most popular PPC search engines are Google and Yahoo. Google and Yahoo can deliver instant traffic to your website but it is costly to advertise on Google and Yahoo. There are other alternatives like Bidvertise.com and Clicksor.com which are cheaper to advertise with.

2) Introduce your site to your family and friends.

3) Write several articles with a link to your website on the resource box and submit them to article directories. You can find a list of article directories by going to Google and entering the search term 'article directory'.

4) Post messages on community forums with a link to your site on the signature of each message posted.

5 Tips to Boost Your Adsense Revenue

Google AdSense program has made it easier for webmasters to make money through a website. Webmasters who run an AdSense campaign will display Google's contextual Ads relevant to the content of their sites and thus encouraging visitors to click the ads and earn money for each ad click.

However you will earn very little AdSense revenue if you don't know how to optimize your AdSense ads on your website. Here are some tips to increase your AdSense earning:

1. Focus on one Adsense ad format. The Large Rectangle (336X280) ad format seems to work better than other ad formats because this format tends to result in higher click through rates (CTR). Another reason is that the ads will look like normal web links that visitors use to click on them. It doesn't matter whether the visitors know that they are clicking AdSense ads or not, as long as there are clicking, you earn AdSense commission.

2. Create a custom palette for your ads. Select a color that matches your website's background. If your site's background is white both, the color of ad border and background should set to be white too. Also the color of the ad title should be similar to coloe of the links in your website. This is to make your AdSense ads look like it is part of the web pages. Again, this will boost AdSense CTR.

3. Don't place your AdSense ads at the bottom of your webpages because it is proven to be less effective. Displaying your AdSense ads at the bottom is like hiding your AdSense and thus leads to low CTR and AdSense revenue. Try to put them in the place where people can see them quickly. You will be amazed how the difference between AdSense locations can make when you see your earnings.

4. Try to place your AdSense ads near rich content as visitors main focus usually are your content. There are several ways to insert AdSense ads into your content and one of the ways is place your AdSense just after the end of your content.

5. Try to automate the insertion of your AdSense code into the webpages using SSI (or server side included). Ask your web administrator if your server supports SSI or not. How do you do it? Just save your AdSense code in a text file, name it as “AdSense text”, and upload it to the root directory of the web server. Then use SSI, call the code on other pages. This tip is a time saver especially for those who are using automatic page generators to generate pages on their website.

These are some of the tips that have worked well for some who want to generate hundreds and even thousands on their websites. There are other ways to optimize your AdSense that produce high CTR also. You can learn more tricks by reading in AdSense and webmaster forums.

How to Use Social Bookmarks for Internet Marketing

There are millions of sites out there and it is impossible to remember all of them. But who says you have to remember them. But who says you have to remember them? You can bookmark it using Del.icio.us and come back later.

Social bookmark is an excellent way to share any blog post or videos that you find interesting. Internet marketers and search engine specialists know this very well and they have spent a considerable amount of time to leverage the system for their business.

There are hundreds of social bookmarking sites available out there and it would probably take more than a few hours just to submit them to 100 of social bookmarking sites. You might not have the time to do it yourself so how do you still get the backlinks for your sites? Simple, just outsource it to specialist who is providing social bookmarketing service. They might have the network of friends who will like your story and help to increase your rating.

A backlink from social bookmark is considered as a do-follow link and this increase your ranking score on search engines. If done correctly, you target audiences will bookmark your website too and your backlinks will increase exponentially.

You can take advantage of social bookmarks by using your targeted keyword for the bookmarks title. This is an excellent way for you to increase your link popularity.

You need to be creative with your title and tag your website with your targeted keywords. So this will lead other to your website when they type in your keywords. This can be the difference of having a number of backlinks from your own bookmarks o massive and instant traffic to your sites. This can help you to save hundreds or even thousands of dollars from paying for PPC campaigns just to get targeted traffic to your sites.

But you will have to make sure your submission is relevant. Don't even think of spamming your own links because that might be counter-productive. You are given about 100 words in the description section but that doesn't mean your should include your keywords more that once on it.

Other members might not be happy with what you're doing and flag your submission. You don't want that to happen because it could be getting your account suspended.

Internet marketers understand the power of social bookmarks and they will not hesitate to outsource the dirty job of building backlinks from these sites. After all, it is impossible to do it by yourself when you have 20 blogs that you update on daily basis.

Social bookmarks can also be a great source for you to find relevant information that you can use to grow your business. Who knows you might stumble upon a site that provides WordPress olugin that you don't even know for your search engine optimization campaign.

How to increase your blogs traffic from Yahoo

Most of you having a site have probably noticed that we get most of our traffic from Google and less from Yahoo. My friend told me about a technique yesterday on how to get Yahoo! to index our blogs better.

I tried it and have noticed an increase in traffic from Yahoo! This technique might be an old one and you might be probably knowing about it. It’s vey simple. Here goes…

First sign up for a MyYahoo page

Now click ‘Add Content’ (above Message Center)

then Click ‘Add RSS by URL’

and enter your RSS URL. If you use FeedBurner, enter it’s url. For example, http://feeds.feedburner.com/johntp

Click ‘Add’, Now you can see your recent posts listed.

Now, Click ‘Add’ again (at the top)

That’s it!

You should now be able to see your feed in a block on the frontpage of your My Yahoo account.

Yahoo will add them to its own tracking system which must be linked to their indexing system.

Wait for a few days and check for any increase of traffic from Yahoo! and do let me know about it.

Below is the breakdown of how Yahoo uses link building to determine your ranking, crawling & indexing in the Yahoo SERP. All of these relate to Inbound Links (IBL) to your site.

1) No Links to your site = NO Existence, Yahoo will Never find your site

2) Few Links to your site = Minor discovery, NO index

3) Some Links to your site = Crawl of your site, NO index

4) Some More Links to your site = Crawl of your site, Index of your site, NO Ranking in the SERP

5) Enough Links to your site = Ranking in the Top 10 of the Yahoo! SERP

6) LOTS of Links to your site – Helps you rank for the keywords and keywords found in the anchor text of your IBL in the Yahoo! SERP.

Yahoo! Site Explorer Tools

If you’re a Yahooligan, you may already know of the Yahoo Search Site Explorer Tools. The Yahoo! Site Explorer works the same was as MSN Live Search you “add sites” in with your URL and sitemap URL so the Yahoo search crawler knows to index them. The difference with Site Explorer is that you can add in multiple feeds, so if you have a post and a comments RSS feed, you can add them both in. This is also handy if you happen to have a site with say a “blog”, and a “forum” in another directory. You can add as many RSS feeds as you want into the Yahoo Site Explorer. If you click on “explore” for any of your URL’s you can see how many pages you have indexed and how many backlinks you have. Click on “show details” while hovering over any URL in the explore results and you can see the last time your site was indexed. Not a lot of tools here either, but it’s better than what MSN Search has for webmasters, and the important thing is to register all your sites and feeds with Yahoo! so that you know the Yahoo! search crawler is visiting your site.

The Google Pagerank Algorithm

Toolbar PageRank
(log base 10) Real PageRank
0 0 - 10
1 10 - 100
2 100 - 1,000
3 1,000 - 10,000
4 10,000 - 100,000
5 and so on…

PR: Shorthand for PageRank: the actual, real, page rank for each page as calculated by Google. As we’ll see later this can range from 0.15 to billions.
Toolbar PR: The PageRank displayed in the Google toolbar in your browser. This ranges from 0 to 10.
Backlink: If page A links out to page B, then page B is said to have a “backlink” from page A.

That’s enough of that, let’s get back to the meat…
So what is PageRank?

In short PageRank is a “vote”, by all the other pages on the Web, about how important a page is. A link to a page counts as a vote of support. If there’s no link there’s no support (but it’s an abstention from voting rather than a vote against the page).

Quoting from the original Google paper, PageRank is defined like this:

We assume page A has pages T1…Tn which point to it (i.e., are citations). The parameter d is a damping factor which can be set between 0 and 1. We usually set d to 0.85. There are more details about d in the next section. Also C(A) is defined as the number of links going out of page A. The PageRank of a page A is given as follows:PR(A) = (1-d) + d (PR(T1)/C(T1) + … + PR(Tn)/C(Tn))Note that the PageRanks form a probability distribution over web pages, so the sum of all web pages\’ PageRanks will be one.PageRank or PR(A) can be calculated using a simple iterative algorithm, and corresponds to the principal eigenvector of the normalized link matrix of the web.

but that’s not too helpful so let’s break it down into sections.

1. PR(Tn) - Each page has a notion of its own self-importance. That’s “PR(T1)” for the first page in the web all the way up to “PR(Tn)” for the last page
2. C(Tn) - Each page spreads its vote out evenly amongst all of it’s outgoing links. The count, or number, of outgoing links for page 1 is “C(T1)”, “C(Tn)” for page n, and so on for all pages.
3. PR(Tn)/C(Tn) - so if our page (page A) has a backlink from page “n” the share of the vote page A will get is “PR(Tn)/C(Tn)”
4. d(… - All these fractions of votes are added together but, to stop the other pages having too much influence, this total vote is “damped down” by multiplying it by 0.85 (the factor “d”)
5. (1 - d) - The (1 – d) bit at the beginning is a bit of probability math magic so the “sum of all web pages\’ PageRanks will be one”: it adds in the bit lost by the d(…. It also means that if a page has no links to it (no backlinks) even then it will still get a small PR of 0.15 (i.e. 1 – 0.85). (Aside: the Google paper says “the sum of all pages” but they mean the “the normalised sum” – otherwise known as “the average” to you and me.

Server Issues which could affect SE rankings

There are many issues which could affect a website’s rankings on search engines which could be out of the site owners control. Below are some of the issues:

Issue 1 – Changing a Site’s IP Address: Moving a site to a new IP (either by switching in on the server, or physically moving the site to a new server with a new IP) would affect a site’s rankings. There would be a lag time between when the DNS change would be submitted and when it would take effect and filter down to individual DNS servers. The site owner (or webmaster) would process the DNS change with a name server, and the registration would likely change within 2-3 days. However, for this change to filter down to the root name servers could take days more.

The structure of the internet is based upon a series of root name servers. There are 13 root name servers that provide name resolution for the internet. The DNS registration/update is applied and forwarded to these root servers who then process the information downwards. The speed of the update to the downstream servers depends on their local settings. Most are set to refresh every 15 minutes, but some can take days to do an update.

When a client (or search engine, or search engine spider) requests a site, it first goes to its local DNS server to request the listing. If it’s own DNS server doesn’t have the site, it forwards the request to the next upstream server, and so on until the name is resolved to an IP. If the name is found and associated to an IP, the IP address is then forwarded to the client who goes to that address. The DNS server has no idea if the address is correct or not, it only has the information since its last refresh with its upstream server. If the IP isn’t correct, the client will get an error.

Recommendation: To solve this problem, the ideal situation would be to have the site exist in both the old and new location for a period of 1 week. This would provide sufficient time for the main root servers and their subordinates to update and refresh their information. Since most clients pay for web hosting services on a month to month basis, and generally sign a contract for a year, it would be advisable to plan a move a few months in advance, and use the last month of the contract to host the site on two servers.

If this wasn’t possible, we’d need to know when search engine spiders are most active and try to move the site when they aren’t active. This would lessen the impact of the move. We also feel that sites that have paid listings would be greatly impacted by a site move, as many premium listing guarantee a regular spider visit, usually every few days. They would follow the procedure outlined above, and would likely not find the old site (if it was moved completely and not maintained at the old IP Address). The site would then likely be dropped by engines, such as Yahoo, and the site owner would probably have to re register and pay the fee to get listed.

Issue 2 – IP’s being banned by Engines: An issue which isn’t necessarily server related, but can be a cause for a site not being indexed is that they share an IP with a site that has been banned, or have inherited an IP from a banned site (see http://support.easystreet.com/abuse/banned_ip.html ). If an engine finds a site objectionable, or feel they were being spammed by a site/IP they will ban it from their index. If this is the case the site’s chances of being picked up by that engine are virtually nil. If this site moves on to a new IP address that hasn’t been banned then they will probably get indexed until the engines catch up to the new site IP and proceed to ban them again.

In the mean time, the banned IP gets given to a new site. The new site has no idea the IP has been banned by the engines, but finds that they aren’t getting indexed. From the site owners perspective (and probably that of the webmaster) they don’t know that the IP has been banned and won’t know why they aren’t being indexed.

Recommendation: If your site hasn’t been indexed within a reasonable timeframe, and you can’t think of a reason, you could check with the webmaster to see if you have an IP that we previously given to another site, and perhaps do some searches for the other site. If it looks like a spam site to you then it may have been banned on your IP earlier by the engines.

Another alternative would be to just request a new IP. Keep in mind the lag time for the DNS updates to filter down, but this wouldn’t likely affect you as much if the site has been banned because of the IP.

Issue 3 – Robots.txt file: Many site owners and webmasters create a file called robots.txt to exclude or include pages from search engines. When a spider visits the site, it will ask the server for this file, if it exists, and use it as a guideline for indexing the site.

Some webmasters/site owners don’t realize the impact of such a document and how it will affect rankings. If they use the wrong syntax, or accidentally exclude the wrong pages they will adversely affect their rankings by excluding some, or all, of the site. If a webmaster adds this file as a standard part of the package but doesn’t add anything to it (IE: the document is empty) the site owner takes the chance of not being indexed. If the spider asks for this file and if it finds it empty it may decide not to index the site.

Recommendation: Unless this file is needed, it shouldn’t exist on the web server. If the site requires it to exclude certain pages (such as personal or private pages that shouldn’t be visible to the public) then the site owner/webmaster should fully understand how to properly create this file.

Issue 4 – Firewalls: Many web servers use a software package called a firewall to protect themselves from intruders. There are many cases of web servers being invaded and taken over by others to fulfill their own needs. As such a firewall is now standard equipment when setting up a web server.

Many firewalls are extremely customizable. A person using a firewall can control how different TCP and UDP ports respond to different situations. A properly configured firewall can protect you from outside attack while allowing legitimate traffic through.

This is the key, however – a firewall has to be properly configured to be effective. Since a firewall can be configured to block certain types of traffic, it can also be configured to block IP addresses as well. If a web master or web site hosting company feels that an IP (or even an IP range) is causing too much traffic on the server, such as when spiders are active, they could chose to ban them. If this is done, a spider can’t visit your site to index it. This will affect rankings. This has been known to happen in the past.

Recommendation: The only way to solve this problem is to ask the web hosting company if they’ve banned any IP’s. A web site owner or webmaster can view their logs to see if a spider has been visiting. If not, then check with the hosting company to see if they have banned the spider’s IP. If so you may ask if they can remove the ban, explaining why, or switch to another hosting company.

Issue 5 – Shared IP’s: Although not proven, there is good evidence to suggest that similar sites which share the same IP will not get favorable traffic from search engines.

Although many sites share their IP addresses with other sites without incident, there are occasions when this is not recommended. If 2 sites share an IP but have the same or similar content, the engines will likely only index 1 site and consider the other a mirror, and therefore not worth the effort to add to their database. If the content is different (IE: A legal site with a health food site) then there doesn’t appear to be an effect on rankings.

This is very similar to a site being banned because it inherited the IP of a banned site. Also, sharing an IP with a banned site could affect a sites performance in the engines, although this has yet to be proven.

Recommendation: Splitting the 2 sites to separate IP addresses should allow both sites to get indexed as they will appear to the engines as unique and therefore worthy of being indexed.

The five issues discussed above are all potential reasons for a particular web site to not be indexed by some or all of the search engines. Individually or together, these reasons do pose a threat to a site’s visibility. Some are in the control of the site owner, while others need to be addressed by the webmaster or web hosting service. We feel the recommendations outlined should help alleviate some of the problems associated with these server issues.

Google and Googlebot Information

We often get asked by prospective and new clients about Googlebot, such as, "how they know if its been to their site", and so on.  Therefore, we've designed this FAQ section to answer some of the more common questions.

1. How do I get listed in Google?
2. What's the name of The Google Spider.
3. What's the difference between Deepbot and Freshbot?
4. How do I know if Freshbot and/or Deepbot have visited my site?
5. What's the actual name for Googlebot showing in the logs?
6. How do I know if my site has been spidered by Google?
7. How do I know which spider (Freshbot or Deepbot) has visited my site if my log analysis reports don't tell me?
8. Googlebot has been to my pages what happens then?
9. How do I know if my site has been indexed by Google?
10. It has been a few days since Googlebot visited but I'm still not showing up in the results pages - Why?
11. My site uses dynamic pages. How can I get it indexed in Google?
12. What if my site is unavailable for Googlebot?
13. What other issues will cause my site to not be indexed by Google?
14. Can I block Googlebot from indexing my site?

1.  How do I get listed in Google?
Go to this page and request that your site be added.   We recommend only submitting the index of a properly linked site and letting Google find your pages on its own.  If for some reason you feel that Google will not index your site properly, then we recommend submitting your sitemap page as well.

2.  What is the name of The Google Spider?
Google calls its spider "Googlebot".  Googlebot comes in two flavors: Deepbot and Freshbot.

3. What's the difference between Deepbot and Freshbot?
Both spiders have specific tasks, as you may have guessed by their names.  Freshbot is the spider you hope to see more often.  It looks for fresh content on a site.  It is not uncommon for Freshbot to visit a site many times a day.  Deepbot is responsible for the really deep crawling.  Generally when you see search results change, it is because Deepbot has been active.  Deepbot is responsible for thoroughly crawling a site and attempting to build a complete picture, or matrix, of the site; how the site is interlinked and how its navigation affects its usability.  Deepbot uses data gathered by Freshbot as well as its own results to build a picture of your site.

4.  How do I know if Freshbot and/or Deepbot have visited my site?
Generally you can tell by the spider's IP address.  Deepbot uses IPs that start with 216, while Freshbot uses IPs that start with 64.  In other words, a Deepbot IP would resemble 216.239.45.4 while a Freshbot IP could include 64.208.32.4.

5. What's the actual name for Googlebot showing in the logs?
Googlebot/2.1 (+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html).  This appears for both Freshbot and Deepbot.

6. How do I know if my site has been spidered by Google?
The easiest way is to do a search for Googlebot (http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html) in your logfile. It may not appear in the "spiders" section of your log analysis tool, however, as it tends to emulate a browser instead.  Therefore, if you are using a log analysis tool like WebTrends, look in the "browsers" section of the report.

7.  How do I know which spider (Freshbot or Deepbot) has visited my site if my log analysis reports doesn't tell me?
You will likely need to look at the raw log files to see which spider visited.  If you perform a search in the file for "Googlebot" then look for the IP address.  It will be in the ranges listed above.

8. Googlebot has been to my pages, so what happens next?
Generally, you can expect your site to start showing up in the search results in a short time. Google makes no guarantees when or even if your site will be included in the index.

9. How do I know if my site has been indexed by Google?
If you have noticed the Googlebot appearing in your log files, the easiest way to see if you have been indexed by Google is to perform a search for your site.  Simply search for your site (i.e. www.mysite.com or mysite.com) and see if your pages show up. Upon performing a search you should see something like this:

The above example shows that our site, Searchengineposition.com is indexed in Google because Google is showing our current title, and some page text as well as other information about the site.

10. It has been a few days since Googlebot visited but I'm still not showing up in the results pages - Why?
Generally, it takes more than a few days to show up in the index.  We recommend waiting at least 1 month as Google usually regularly updates its index in this timeframe.  If it has been more than two months, there may be other issues which affect your site's ability to be indexed.  As mentioned above, Google makes no guarantees when, or even if, your site will show up in the search results pages.  Go to this page on the Google site to see reasons why your site may not be indexed.  Aside from Google deciding not to list your site, there are other issues which could have affected your being indexed.  Read more about them here.

11. My site uses dynamic pages.  How can I get it indexed in Google?
Google does index dynamic sites on its own.  The problem will be that it won't rank them highly.  If all you are concerned with is getting into the index, then you are ok.  If you want to rank well for key phrases though, you should consider alternatives other than a dynamic URL system to display your site.

12.  What if my site is unavailable when Googlebot visits?
Generally, both Deepbot and Freshbot will make repeated attempts to access your site before moving on.  Therefore, it's recommended that your site be available for a majority of the time.  If you were indexed in Google, then were removed because your site was unavailable, we recommend waiting at least a month to see if you get reindexed.  Many times Google will remove an inaccessible site, to keep its results relevant, then will reinstate the site when the site is available again.

13.  What other issues will cause my site to not be indexed by Google?
There can be many things, aside from your site not being available, which could cause Googlebot to exclude your site from the current crawl and index.  There are many server issues which could affect ranking as well as design issues and other issues which make it difficult to index the site.

14.  Can I block Googlebot from indexing my site?
While we do not recommend this in any situation, unless you thoroughly understand how to write this file, you may feel the need to block all or part of your site from spiders.  Through the use of a file called robots.txt you can exclude specific files and folders from being included in the index.  You can even block your whole site from being indexed, therefore, you should only employ this file when you are sure you have it configured properly.  For more information on proper configuration of a robots.txt file, click here.

How to Increase Google Crawl Rate

Google is king when it comes to the search engines, which is why its pretty darned important to get them to index your pages quickly & efficiently. So I’ve decided to share some of my experience with you. So you can improve your website crawl rate, get those pages indexed quicker & and increase your website traffic.

1. Frequent Content

This sounds like an obvious one, but from my experience people just don’t do it enough. Google loves content, its text it sees, not much else really. So the more content you have, on a regular basis, it then knows to visit you more frequently, to get the latest stuff. Unless you’re a obsessive blogger, and remember this applies to websites which aren’t blogs too. Aim to add new content, once per week. This should over time, and I mean a few months, get google returning every week to index your new pages.

I do admit this can be tricky, especially if you’re website is a very specific topic, as its not easy to add content that frequent. A few suggestions for this is add news about your product, make sure its unique as this will carry more weight. Another idea is to add a corporate blog, this will give your customers a way to get to know your company personally, and it’s far easier to write generate more content this way, but do not just re-publish press releases…

2. Update Every Page

From the title, this one sounds stupid, but this is a great ‘trick’. Google is stupid, just like the other search engines. A lot of websites use includes as a common element in their pages, like a header or footer. Add a nice strap-line describing your website, and change this frequently and regularly. Using the spoon example you could put something like: “Spoonsite.co.uk provides information on spoons and other cutlery” - when you update this weekly, try and increase or decrease it by at least 30 characters, just so google can then see the page size change, and believe all your pages have been update. It does increase the google crawl rate.

3. Good Linking

Internal linking is as important as external links. If you have good linking, then Google can navigate all your your pages easily, increasing the chances of your pages being indexed. External linking is also important, if someone links to you, when they are crawled, you have a pretty good chance the bot will follow that link through to your site, and hey presto, you’re being crawled again.

4. Just check the obvious

If you’ve go a webmaster tools account, make sure you don’t have your crawl rate set to slower, as this wont be necessary for your website usually, only if you have problems. Also check out your robots.txt - that you haven’t actually blocked some bots from visiting. You will be surprised how many people do this.

5. Another great way to invite Googlebot is to assign unique title and meta-tags for each of your pages.

6. Page load time is another critical factor to be taken care of. If the crawler spends too much time crawling your huge images or PDF files, there will be no time left for it to visit your other pages.

7. It is imperative that your server should always return correct header response.

Ok here are a few tips, enjoy and give them ago.
